The Impossible

I'm ashamed to admit it, but my office is generally a mess "to the untrained eye". I don't mind because it's my mess and I know where everything is. My desk usually contains things that I am either working on, or items left there to remind me of things for a future date. My books are either ordered study tools on God's word or variously disorganized sections of personal reads and old Sunday school material. The contents of the shelves and my desk change as seasons change, but there are a few things that are static... They never move. These are pictures of my family, framed accomplishments, artwork from my kids, rocks that I have picked up from my adventures, a broken clock, and letters my kids have given me when they were younger. Each of these serve to remind me of where I have been and who I am. Ultimately, they are a reminder that our God is an awesome God! After Joshua led the children of Israel across the Jordan river, the Lord told Joshua to have twelve men, one from each tribe, to go down into the Jordan and bring out of it a stone. They were instructed by God to place the stones where they logged that night. Joshua 4:6-7 tells us: "That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying What mean ye by these stones? Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever." This was done so they could remember that God is good and he keeps his promises. Philippians 1:6 says: "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." At the time Joshua and the children of Israel crossed the Jordan, the river was "out of its banks". It was flooded, and impossible to cross on foot. (Joshua 3) Meaning, in order for Israel to cross into the promised land they would have to do something impossible. If they were to follow God's will, it would mean they would have to do this impossible task. However, they were not alone and God had already given them the land. God had told Joshua to be strong and of a good courage, be not afraid, neither dismayed; for the Lord thy God is with you wherever you go. The bible says that as soon as the priests that carried the ark of the covenant (ask symbolizing God's presence and grace, and covenant meaning promise)... as soon as their feet touched the waters of the Jordan, the water was immediately "cut off". They crossed the impossible to cross, overflowing, treacherous, waster ((on dry ground)). Remember when life gets tough, when you can't seem to find a way to go on... just take that next step. God has brought you this far, and He's not going to abandon you now. He who has begun a good work in you will complete it. Trust Him... even with the impossible.
